Volunteer Project – Havenwoods State Forest

| news

MRA Wild Ones is partnering with the Friends of Havenwoods to clean up and replant the native plant garden at the front entrance of the Nature Center. The garden was replanted shortly before the pandemic, but due to DNR staffing cuts, it has become over-grown with aggressive native roses and invasive plants. We hope through volunteer efforts and plant donations we can restore the garden to a native plant showcase for this important urban oasis.

Havenwoods is Wisconsin’s only urban state forest. It provides visitors the opportunity to enjoy wildlife viewing, hiking, biking and more. Havenwoods also provides a variety of interpretive and environmental education services through school field trips and public programming.

We are currently meeting Wednesday mornings to work on the initial clean-up. Work starts at 8:30 am to beat the heat, but feel free to come later.  Tools are provided, just bring gloves and water.   MAP

We will also have a planting workday in September. It’s tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 14th. Details coming soon!
